New Neighbourhood On The Site Of The Former Filton Airfield Receives Council Approval
South Gloucestershire Council resolution is a major milestone for the redevelopment of a historic local landmark.
South Gloucestershire Council has passed a resolution to grant planning consent for the historic former Filton Airfield. The council’s decision clears the way for the 380-acre site to be transformed into a thriving new neighbourhood, with over 2,600 new homes, 62 acres of employment space and three new schools.
Filton Airfield site is steeped in history: It is the birthplace of Concorde and supersonic travel. Since acquiring the site in 2015, YTL Developments has been developing the masterplan for the site with award-winning architects Allies & Morrison.
Following the grant of consent for the masterplan, YTL will now begin developing detailed plans for its first phase of development. The firm expects to submit a detailed planning application for the first phase of new homes in 2018.
Colin Skellett, Chairman of YTL UK, said: “The redevelopment of Filton Airfield is about creating a new urban community. We are surrounded by the big players of the aerospace industry and the vision for the Airfield will enable them to grow, helping them to attract and retain talented people. Our aim is to create an exciting new place where people from across the region will want to live and work”
Since 1955, YTL has led the way in creating thriving new urban communities across Asia, Australia and Europe.
While Filton Airfield will be the firm’s first major UK property redevelopment project, the firm has a long track-record of investing in UK business.
YTL bought Wessex Water in 2002 and owns a number of infrastructure and hotel assets. In total the company’s investments in the UK are worth over £3billion.
