Hangar 16U: A new, local social hub

Hangar 16U - a Grade II listed aircraft hangar - is set to be transformed into an incredible 21st century community hub. The restoration work of the building, which once housed ‘Battle of Britain’ fighter planes, will see this historic structure return to its rightful place as the centre of community life, home to a brand-new public library, café, gym and social centre.

Plans submitted for the next phase of new homes (2022)

The next phase of new homes at Brabazon were submitted for planning in September 2022. The designs aim to create a strong sense of community by introducing a new ’living streets’ concept, with shared gardens and an additional play area for children that will bring residents together. There will also be no gas-based heating, helping to reduce reliance on natural resources and enabling more sustainable lifestyles.

Revised Masterplan for Brabazon (2022)

Brabazon is the largest area of brownfield land in the South West, located less than five miles from Bristol city centre along major public transport and active travel routes. The updated masterplan application, developed through extensive consultation, is designed to create a thriving new urban neighbourhood that is more sustainable, more connected, and that lives up to the legacy of the former Airfield’s pioneering past.

Brabazon Park: A New Destination (2022)

At the heart of Brabazon will be the largest new urban public park in the South West for 50 years. Equivalent in size to Bristol’s Castle Park, Brabazon Park will feature mature trees, play and exercise areas, landscaped gardens and a three-acre lake, creating a new haven for wildlife and a landmark leisure destination for North Bristol.

A New Rail Station for Brabazon (2021)

In October 2021, Network Rail submitted an application to build the new rail station at Brabazon. When operational in 2023 this station - currently known as North Filton - will connect Brabazon to Bristol Temple Meads in less than 15 minutes.

Roads, Bus Lanes, Walking Routes and Cycle Paths (2021)

In September 2021, we submitted a detailed planning application under the framework of the existing Masterplan to deliver the primary road network at Brabazon. This includes wide pedestrian boulevards, over 3Km of segregated cycle routes and separate bus lanes, including three MetroBus stops.

YTL Arena Bristol: A Supersonic New Venue (2020)

In March 2020, permission was granted to transform the historic Brabazon Hangars – where every UK Concorde was built – into a supersonic new Arena for Bristol. This 17,000-capacity venue will not only put Bristol on the world stage for live music and entertainment, but also be the most sustainable entertainment venue in Europe.

The Hangar District - Where Brabazon Begins (2019)

The Hangar District is the first phase of new homes at Brabazon. Designed by Stirling Prize-winning architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, the 302 houses and apartments are designed to be different. Over 95% of our houses are A-rated on their Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs). Nationally only 2% of homes reach this standard.

Current Approved Masterplan (2018)

In 2018, South Gloucestershire Council granted planning approval for the existing Masterplan, including over 2,675 new homes, 62 acres of employment space, three new schools, transport infrastructure and community and leisure facilities, all set around landscaped public squares and parkland.
