Dan Norris, Mayor of the West of England Combined Authority (WECA), recently visited Brabazon to see plans for the new neighbourhood for Bristol, being built at the former Filton Airfield.
Over the next 20 years, YTL Developments will transform this historic local landmark into the most exciting new city district in the South West. With more than 2,600 new homes, creative workspaces, new schools and community facilities as well as the region’s largest new public park for 50 years, Brabazon is designed to live up to the former airfield’s legacy of innovation and invention.
And at the heart of Brabazon will be the supersonic YTL Arena Bristol. The most sustainable venue of its kind in the UK – with solar panelling and rainwater harvesting – this new 17,000 capacity venue is being designed to put Bristol on the world stage for live music and entertainment.
West of England Combined Authority Mayor, Dan Norris, who has pledged to encourage the development of communities with work and leisure on the doorstep, said he was impressed with YTL Developments’ vision for the site.
He said: “As a young man growing up locally I remember Concorde rattling my windows, and I know how Filton is home to some of our region’s most outstanding achievements.
"Its brilliant track-record of innovation means the standard has been set. Looking to the future that means local people will settle for nothing less than a simply outstanding new neighbourhood on this historic part of the West of England.
“It was fascinating to learn exactly what YTL have planned for this famous site. The home I went into was of good quality, airy with plenty of natural light. I was impressed by the wide range of new facilities we are set to see at Brabazon in the next few years.”
Seb Loyn, Director at YTL Developments, said: “Brabazon is not only one of the largest brownfield regeneration projects in the country, but its strategic location means it has huge potential to drive growth and prosperity across the region. It was a pleasure to welcome the Mayor to Brabazon and we look forward to working with him to deliver the most exciting new city district in the South West.”
